Day 30: Cycling from Berlin to Athens

Day 30

Glamoc > Livno > Busko Jezero Lake, Grabovica

59.8km

3 hours 42 mins

1,019m elevation gain

After a good night's sleep we felt a bit revived from all the challenges yesterday and ready for a new day. We went into town to try and find breakfast, which didn't go very well at first but then we found a place with omelettes. Many locals gave us a good stare but also many friendly waves and gestures to say hello. We started to ride up the hills but soon the rain came down again and we got pretty wet and cold once again. At one point I could barely see as the rain was running straight into my eyes. Luckily though, by the afternoon the sun came out and warmed us up and we stayed at a lovely place by Busko Jezero Lake in Grabovica. It's called Eco Selo Lodge and it was a bit of luxury after the last few days, it was also unavailable online but we decided to turn up just in case and they had a room!

The bike servicing

Livno was the first larger town we were passing through for a while now so we were able to get cash but also Shanky saw that there was a bike workshop. It wasn't showing on my phone but we gave it a go. In the general area we could only see a car workshop, so we went in to ask if this was the place and they did bikes too, or if they knew where it was. The guy here was very friendly and said it was just 100m down the road at a house. But he said, wait a second I'll call the bike guy. He did and the bike guy came up the road to meet us and bring us to his workshop. True enough it really was just a shed on the side of his house anf he was a young guy. I presume he learnt his trade just from messing around with bikes. He was very interested in our trip and was impressed. He said he mainly works on the bikes of locals but he loves to see people travelling through Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He completed a full servicing of our bikes, he pumped up my tyre, sorted my kickstand and aligned Shanky's breaks so they work better now. He greased up both our chains and checked over everything. He was great and now our bikes work as good as new, much smoother and quieter than they had started to become and he wouldn't accept any cash from us! (Servis Bicikla Livno in Zastinje, just outside Livno).

Sights of note:

  • A huge globe in someone's garden
  • A lovely lunch, recommended by our bike guy in Livno
  • An army vehicle turned up in Glamoc during breakfast and 4 soldiers joined us for a coffee and did some gambling at "Formula 1" on the other side of the street
