Rest day in Ljubljana

The centre with the castle in the background |
We really love this city which has a lot of charm, beautiful architecture, a trendy side and friendly people. It's made our list of top 3 cities so far, we will announce the winners at the end of the trip. We took a "free" walking tour in the morning and learnt a lot about the history of the place and the monuments. Ljubljana means love which is perfect for this city and they have a little obsession with dragons which I like, our tour guide said there's one rumoured to be living under the medieval castle.

The ceiling of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas |
It's a very green/ eco-friendly city with a huge amount of the centre pedestrianised and they have these little electric taxis, like in the airport, which you can jump in for a free ride or call if you need a lift and you're tired. Quite a lot of locals were on bikes and there are some cool bridges. We are also staying at the Park Hotel which has a tag-line of being urban and green - they cultivate and sell urban honey on the rooftop and have delicious homemade ice-cream.

The view from the hotel |
In the evening we went up in the funicular to the castle and explored the prison and the medieval towers and walkways, it was nice to see the city glowing at night. We had local wine at a bar under the funicular and we found some funny fountains on the way home.
