Day 24
Novo Mesto > Crnomelj > Croatian border > Generalski Stol
73.7km
4 hours 16 mins
1,018m elevation gain
So we set off in the morning along the altered route which we planned that very morning, with a packed lunch and we were excited about the new plan. Soon after leaving Mesto we approached an enormous incline up a mountain and we went up to 600m! We survived the hill but for the rest of the day even short inclines were hurting my legs a lot. After the hard work we were rewarded with a few kilometres of cruising downhill and it was lovely countryside.

Border Crossing
We had an ice-cream break at the Slovenian border town, Vinica, as it was very warm and I needed to cool down. We then set off for the border crossing which is at the river, the river Kupa separates the two countries, so we were coming downhill and almost didn't stop at the checkpoint. We hadn't realised that they would check our passports until an arm came waving out of the checkpoint and then a border officer popped out of the next compartment too. We showed our passports to representatives from both countries and then we were on our way.

Proof we are in Croatia |
Sights of note
- Many tractors and in Vinica loads of small, old tractors slower than us on bikes
- A man at our B&B (GEA) trying to speak to us and we think complementing Shanky on his choice of girlfriend
- Vineyards and nice scenery - in Croatia there are lots of ferns along the road
- A strange profile of a face along the roadway (see pic)
