Day 4: Cycling from Berlin to Athens

Day 4

Staritz > Reisa > Meissens > Dresden

79.2km

4 hours 47 mins

276m  elevation gain

Pension Lindenhof provided us with an excellent breakfast including some yummy scrambled eggs and we were ready to set off for the day. The cycling started out a little slower than the rest, as we were a bit achy and tired from the long ride the day before. The landscape also wasn't too different, but after a few hours the route brightened up, the sun came out and we made good progress. We had set our sights high and booked a place in Dresden, so we were determined to keep going. A few hours out of Dresden the route became really beautiful and the cycle path stayed close to the River Elbe. There were many cyclists and other bikes of all shapes and sizes. I was unable to keep saying "hallooo" to everyone.

Happy on Day 4

Bar Bados

After two and a half hours of riding, I was getting desperate for a place to stop and re-fuel when we came upon Bar Bados a super chilled out place along the River Elbe pumping reggae tunes. We lay back on the sofas to relax and ordered two milkshakes with whipped cream on top!

Just what we needed - milkshakes!

Sights of note:

  • A blue clown-like drinking water fountain
  • An ostrich
  • A little transporter boat for bikes and pedestrians

The clown drinking fountain

Ostrich alert!

Dresden

We landed in Dresden at 16:30 and headed straight for our hotel which was great, showered and then prepared to go out to eat, feeling a little lightheaded after not too much food and 80km of cycling. We had prepared the night before, looking up the number 1 Indian restaurant in Dresden which was Little India and we can confirm that the food was delicious and authentic. We filled ourselves up to the brim, even the staff were impressed. Then we roamed around the trendy streets back to our hotel for a long nights' sleep.
